Croydon -QLD
Characteristics
Croydon is situated in the heart of the Gulf Savannah Country. Grazing and tourism provide the economic growth for Croydon Shire, which has an area of nearly 29,500 sq.klm and 322 shire residents.
Croydon has developed a rich heritage based on the discovery of gold in 1885. The shire has retained the history through restoration and conservation of its historical sites. These include the Police Precinct with jail, Courthouse, Working Mine Museum, Chinese temple archaeological site, the Old Hospital and Town hall.
There are also a number of other attractions well worth seeing. For example, Lake Belmore gives the wanderer the opportunity to take a refreshing swim, enjoy a bbq, have a go at skiing or fishing. There’s the award winning Savannah Guide, which provides informative and entertaining anecdotal stories of life in the gold mining days. Each year we hold Croydon Poddy Dodgers Music Festival, which features a night rodeo, markets and talent quest.
The Caravan Park at Croydon invites you to stay at one of their many shady grassed sites. Facilities include a swimming pool, clean modern amenity blocks, access to cable TV and pets are welcome. There’s also the historic Club Hotel, which is the only remaining licenses of the original 122 issued on the gold fields. There are also a number of businesses such as the General Store, Cafe and BP Roadhouseo stock up on groceries, buy meals and other items whilst staying in Croydon.
